PPOS offers grades 9–12.

Students must be Colorado residents and 20 years of age or younger when they enroll. Students who turn 21 while enrolled and need additional education in order to receive a diploma may remain enrolled until they meet the graduation requirements or the end of the school year, whichever occurs first. Students must also be able to demonstrate completion of the eighth grade through official transcript or homeschool portfolios.

PPOS is a public school, so there is no tuition. We provide Colorado-licensed teachers and instructional materials. Students and families will be responsible for providing some common household materials (such as printer ink and paper). Our enrollment consultants can help address your technological and computer questions and needs.

Yes, we provide textbooks and instructional materials, which are sent directly to students. These books and materials are dependent on the student’s grade level and the courses they’re enrolled in. Computer systems are provided to students who are eligible for the free and reduced lunch program.

As Colorado public school students, all PPOS students must comply with the state-required 180 instructional days.

The school calendar includes school holidays or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. Parents are encouraged to contact their student’s teacher if they plan a vacation that does not coordinate with the school calendar. 

We expect that students will spend 80+ percent of their school time on the computer in grades 9–12. They will also do hands-on science experiments, read novels, and complete math problems that are done without the computer.

Students spend time with classmates online and through school outings, field trips, and other activities. Local clusters of students and parents often get together in their area to study together, socialize, and have fun. In addition to school-based clubs, K12 online national clubs and  school based clubs help connect students with like interests and passions.

PPOS is a public school, so all students who wish to enroll are admitted subject only to the enrollment requirements listed on our How to Enroll page. Enrollment applications are date/time stamped and processed in the order in which they are received.

PPOS specializes in addressing the needs of students who are struggling. Our credit recovery and remediation programs help students get back on track. We develop an Individualized Learning Plan to ensure every student has a roadmap to success that’s specific to them.

Students can apply once enrollment for the school year is open. Enrollment continues through mid-September. Once approved, students will begin at the start of the next school year.  Occasionally we open spots for Spring semester.

Each case will be reviewed based upon records from your current or former school district. Colorado state law prohibits schools from enrolling students who are currently under district or school expulsion. PPOS can only enroll formerly expelled students. Approval for enrollment will not be granted until the case is reviewed.

The McKinney Act of 1987, or P.L. 100-77, ensures that each child of a homeless individual, and each homeless youth shall have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education as provided to other children and youth. The act has been amended and is considered the McKinney-Vento Act currently. Under the Act, schools are prohibited from delaying a homeless child’s entry into school due to delays in obtaining school records. Rules regarding guardianship must be waived for homeless students living with foster parents or relatives other than their legal guardians. Students in temporary housing or housing that is substandard or considered inadequate due to hardship, or who are not living with a parent or guardian would be considered McKinney-Vento students.

Pikes Peak Online School can offer school supplies and a list of community services to qualifying homeless youth. Determinations of qualifying students are made on a case-by-case basis. Parents/students may review the Pikes Peak Online School Admission of Homeless Children and Youth policy by calling the school office at 720.370.7767.

Under the ESSA, beginning with information from the 2017–2018 school year, report cards must be posted annually on district websites. (ESEA section 1111(h) (1) (A), (B)(iii) and (h)(2)(A), (B)(iii)). At the core of the Colorado School Report Cards is the belief that all students can grow, and all schools can improve. While no student report card tells the full story of a child, no school report card tells the full story of a school. Education is far more than a single score or letter grade, but it is important that families and communities can see both strengths and areas that need support and improvement. In this age of data-driven decision making, data is foundational to the success of the process. Whether discussing student-achievement, program monitoring, education funding, accountability or any other education-related conversation, data is at the center of the discussion. PPOS is required by state and federal law to collect and store student and educator records. 

PPOS takes seriously its obligation to protect the privacy of data collected, used, shared and stored. Please find the Student Data Security and Privacy Policy in its entirety, here. PPOS collects Personal Identifiable Information (PII), as identified as on CDE data dictionary, for the- normal day- to- day school management and operations of student services as also listed on the CDE data dictionary fact sheet. PPOS shares these Personal Identifiable Information (PII) data points, as identified as on CDE data dictionary, to the following third party in order that it can provide the day-to-day management and operations of student services to PPOS. The CDE data dictionary can be found at cde.state.co.us.

PUBLIC NOTICE: In accordance with the Colorado Student Data Transparency and Security Act, C.R.S. Section 22-16-101 et seq., please be advised that if Education reEnvisioned BOCES and Pikes Peak Online School ceases using or refuses to use a School Service On-Demand Provider pursuant to C.R.S. 22-16-107 (3) (c), Education reEnvisioned BOCES and Colorado Preparatory shall post on its website the name of the On-Demand provider, with any written response that the on-Demand Provider may submit, and will notify the Colorado Department of Education, which will post on its website the On-Demand Provider’s name and any written response.
